ISO 9001

About ISO 9001

The standard most tenders ask for, and the one the other four are easiest to build on top of.

ISO 9001 is the world's best-known management system. It recognises your company's commitment to quality management and continuous improvement, and it's designed to help you achieve across-the-board excellence that will set you apart from your competitors.

It's the ISO certification you simply must achieve if you want to grow a robust, resilient organisation that's ready to embrace new and exciting opportunities.

As an ISO 9001 registered company, you will naturally increase your credibility and competitiveness in your marketplace. This is a quality standard for quality businesses; it's an ISO certification you simply must invest in if you want to ensure continual growth and assured longevity for your organisation.

Why invest in ISO 9001?

ISO 9001 certification will help you:

Improve your reputation

Achieving ISO 9001 certification demonstrates that your business operates to an unparalleled quality management standard. It will enhance its credibility and reputation amongst your customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders – and it's a clear mark of both reliability and trustworthiness.

Keep your customers happy

ISO 9001 focuses on meeting customer requirements and improving customer satisfaction through consistent quality. By implementing effective QMS processes, businesses can better understand and respond to their customer's needs – and as you well know, satisfied customers are more likely to provide repeat business and refer you to their own contacts, which is crucial for your long-term success.

Improve efficiency and productivity

The ISO 9001 standard emphasises process improvement and efficiency. By adhering to its guidelines, you can streamline your operations, reduce waste, and avoid costly errors, resulting in increased productivity and enhanced profitability.

Access new market opportunities

Many businesses, especially those operating in sectors like manufacturing, technology, or public services, are required to hold ISO 9001 certification to participate in tenders for government and large corporate clients. ISO 9001 certification can open doors to new markets and provide a competitive edge when bidding for these kinds of contracts.

Achieve regulatory compliance

ISO 9001 provides a framework to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements by promoting a systematic approach to managing legal and regulatory obligations, helping you avoid costly penalties and legal issues.

Manage risk

ISO 9001 encourages you to identify and mitigate risks in your processes. By implementing structured risk management practices, you can prevent problems before they occur, minimising any unwelcome disruptions and ensuring business continuity.

Boost employee engagement

Achieving ISO 9001 certification promotes a culture of continuous improvement and employee involvement within your firm. It ensures that all your employees understand their roles in maintaining quality, resulting in an engaged, motivated and unified workforce that performs at its best and is committed to innovation.

Improve your decision-making

The ISO 9001 standard encourages data-driven decision-making through clearly defined metrics, as well as regular audits and reviews. You can use this data to make more informed decisions, identify areas for improvement, and measure the overall effectiveness of your quality management systems.

Attract investment

Investors and financial institutions view ISO 9001 certification as a sign of a well-run and low-risk business. This can make it easier for you to attract investment or secure loans, as it shows a commitment to quality and operational excellence.

Take your business global

ISO 9001 is recognised worldwide. It signals to international partners that you're a safe bet, and it's often a crucial requirement for companies that are looking to export products or services.

AS9100

Specialist AS9100 consultancy

AS9100 is based on the broader ISO 9001 system, then adds the requirements and controls the aerospace, aviation and defence sectors need. If you already hold ISO 9001, you are most of the way there.

  • A compliant ISO 9001 core, which the aerospace requirements are built on top of
  • Additional controls for aerospace manufacturing, maintenance and services
  • The standard is managed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG)
  • AS9100D is the current revision, and the one we implement
  • Experience with industry-specific clients in Essex, London, Hertfordshire and further afield
  • An auditor in house: David qualified with BSI as an AS9100 auditor

We have delivered AS9100 training on a client's own site

AT Engineering Technology asked us to train their team to AS9100 at their premises. If your people need to understand the standard as well as work to it, say so when you call — we can build the training into the project. See our training courses.

What to expect

How ISO 9001 registration actually works

Six stages, in the order we work through them. How long each one takes depends entirely on where you are starting from.

  1. Stage 1

    Gap analysis

We look at what you already do and what you already have written down, then tell you plainly how far off the standard you are. You have not committed to anything at this point.

  2. Stage 2

    Process mapping and improvements

We map how the work really flows through your business, rather than how an off-the-shelf template says it should. Where a process is doing no work, we say so.

  3. Stage 3

    Building and refining your system

Simple, colourful flowcharts in place of complex written procedures. No special software to buy, and as little paperwork as the standard will allow.

  4. Stage 4

    Training your team

Auditor training, management awareness training on the leadership requirements, and staff awareness training — so your people can answer an auditor's questions in their own words.

  5. Stage 5

    Internal audits and management review

We run the audit cycle with you: recording and monitoring customer complaints, investigating nonconformities, finding the root cause and closing the corrective action out properly rather than on paper.

  6. Stage 6

The assessment visit, and everything after it

A consultant is in the room with you when BSI, NQA, LRQA or BRE assess you. Registration is not the end of it — we stay on for the surveillance visits if you want us to.

How long would this take a business your size?

It depends on what you already have in place, so we would rather look than guess. Fifteen minutes on the phone will give you an honest answer either way.
